Volume 14, May 2013

What kind of life is one without vivid illustration? How boring it must be to sit in a cubicle all day, do as you’re told, and only have an hour-long lunch break. It took me long to realize that I crave more and have more to offer. Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in the ways of what we’ve been taught; it’s up to us to recognize our own potential.

Editors Note

What kind of life is one without vivid illustration? How boring it must be to sit in a cubicle all day, do as you’re told, and only have an hour-long lunch break? It took me long to realize that I crave more and have more to offer. Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in the ways of what we’ve been taught; it’s up to us to recognize our own potential. When I was younger, I never liked to read; therefore, I never liked to write. Reading was tedious and boring; writing was painful and structured – much has changed in ten years. I can now proudly say that writing has dug its way into my mind and planted a seed that refuses to die.

Even in the midst of our busy lives, we must take a step “out of the box” and into something we may not necessarily be familiar with. Fortunately, I found a passion for poetry early on, but I’ve met many who underestimated it at first and have come to find its value irresistible.

I would like to offer a special thank you to the College of Arts and Sciences, Dean Lux, and all involved with the BLR, especially Professor Tom Chandler. AFter taking three of his classes and working more closely with him this semester, I know that pursuing a Creative Writing minor was the right choice for me. I don’t know what I would do or what I would become without the powerful, refreshing outlet of creative expression. Learning about the details of poetry has made it that much more meaningful to me – something I intend to share.

It’s my sincere wish that the contents of this 14th volume of the BLR please you and ignite a fire in your fingers that persuades your mind out of its usual routine, creating something beautiful.

May you always see more than meets the eye,
Danica Fonacier-Cruz
